There are various important factors that should be taken into account in the interior design of any space. By sticking to the fundamental tenets given below, most of the important issues will be taken care of. All of them play an important role in the appeal of a space, though they may be used in different ways in different situations.

Unity: As per this, the entire space must be dealt with as a single unit, which has been partitioned through walls, and this must be kept in mind while designing the interiors of the place, which therefore should have some uniformity. The central theme must never be lost sight of.

Balance: This involves appropriately adjusting items in a given space. Objects which have similar visual characteristics must be put at different points in the room to strike a balance along a predetermined axis. Balance can be of three kinds. The most basic type is symmetrical balance, which is quite easy to attain. The second kind is asymmetrical balance, which is very much in vogue, but requires a good deal of creativity. The third is radial, which is achieved by using a central point or object from which the other items seem to radiate.

Proportion: This is basically to do with the size and proportions of the objects. It is crucial that different objects are in sync with each other and with the room in terms of proportions. The lack of proportionality will make some pieces of furniture stand out, while certain others will be left overshadowed, which will not be good for the overall attractiveness of the room.

Focus: A focal point in interior design of a space is important for its appeal. Focal articles can be anything ranging from a furniture article to a beautiful painting or some other art work. The item must be such that it is significant in the overall design of the room and is able to grab the attention of the onlooker. It must be eye-catching without appearing irrelevant in the room.

Rhythm: This is again an essential factor of good interior design. This means that the design must have a feeling of continuity and structure. Using a lot of arcs, ornate walls or ceilings, decorative fixtures at regular distances, alternate colours etc can help attain a perceptible rhythm.

If enough attention is given to these aspects, you can be certain that the interior designing exercise will be effective. It is recommended to hire a good interior design expert who can take care of all these factors and also assist you with the details.
